I didn't have the urge to watch a horror movie in a long time. But somehow when I saw the trailer for Drag Me to Hell and knew Justin Long was starring in this movie, I was dying to watch it. So I checked Twitter and saw what others have to say and most people mentioned it was scary. Subsequently, I went to watch this movie with the aim to be scared till I jump out of my seat, scream and be afraid to sleep alone for the next few nights. I got more than what I bargained for.The truth is Drag Me to Hell is not a typical horror film, it is a many times funny and startling horror movie. I should have checked Rotten Tomatoes reviews before watching this movie (darn twitterers).
When the movie just begun, there were already many signs. The typical old fashioned typography for the title of the movie, the overused lurking creepy hand shadows, and the corny lines. There were wrestling, pointless events, dancing, cool visual effects, obviously fake visual effects, romance, somethings that doesn't make sense, startling scenes, scary music, more corny lines and cast shadows, buzzing hell-flies, eyeball, goo, maggots, and last but not least a talking goat.
Throughout the movie, I laughed and I screamed. Drag Me to Hell is in a totally new genre, which I like to call Corror/Homedy/Horredy, a mixture of Horror and Comedy. If this was what Sam Raimi intended to do, then he definitely did an excellent job.
On a personal note, if the cursed object is not the necklace. Your poster shouldn't show that the hell-hand is pulling the girl by the necklace.
